First thing you need to do if you're considering this car seat, is to go to whichever store in your area sells this seat and TRY it out in your vehicle first.

It is on the taller side, which is a plus for when your child outgrows the rear facing limit you won't have to buy a new seat. However I've had no trouble fitting this car seat RF in a 00 jeep grand cherokee, or a 11 subaru impreza wrx sti. I DID have a problem finding a good fit in the 11 prius.

As far as the head "wings" go, they give me peace of mind. I'm far less concerned about my child's view than I am her safety. I've read a lot of reviews of people not liking the seat due to the side impact air wings (or whatever they're called) blocking their child's view which in my opinion is no reason to compromise her safety.

Easy push button latch system, takes little effort to secure seat in vehicle. I think every kid should have this seat.

As some others have noted (see "Hate this with a passion" under one-star reviews for: Safety 1st Air Protect Complete Convertible Car Seat, Silverleaf ) the harness straps are difficult to tighten; one shoulder tends to tighten more than the other, so you have to jockey back and forth, alternately loosening and tightening the strap to get a good fit. I believe the primary reason for this is that they no longer include what I would call "shoulder harness guides" for it.

If you look at the "Marshall" color style for the product I am reviewing, you will see what I mean; look where the shoulder strap fits through the body; each shoulder strap goes in its own "guide" which is basically a flat nylon sheath/holster (you'll need to zoom in to see it clearly). Well, it only exists in the picture, because they don't seem to include these anymore (in fact, you can only see it in pictures of the "Marshall" color, probably because the manufacturer forgot to update the picture). The display model ("Flutter" color) at Babies-R-Us *did* have these guides (no doubt an older model), but the one I bought did not; also a "Flutter", manufactured in August of 2011.

This will be hard to envision if you don't have the car seat to inspect, but where the shoulder strap feeds through the back of the shell, it passes down over a round metal bar (eventually connecting to the splitter plate). But instead of running directly over the metal bar, there are thin, roughly-textured (like fine-grained sand paper) plastic tabs that the strap runs over. I assume these tabs keep the straps from twisting or sliding side-to-side. However they create friction and make the strap hard to pull in for a tight fit.

The display model had the guides which, on the back-side of the shell, actually attach to the metal bar, so the harness strap never comes in contact with the textured tabs or the metal bar; the harness strap stays within the guide, eliminating the friction caused by sliding over the textured tabs. (I would guess that the guides and tabs were originally designed to work together; the guides preventing twisting, and the tabs preventing the guides themselves from sliding around or being pulled through to the back. But removing the guides creates the unintended consequence of the harness strap now rubbing directly on the tab. Again, this is just a guess)

I have no idea if they stopped including the guides as a cost-savings or because they caused other problems (they weren't even aligned properly in the display model; they had been pulled through to the back of the shell). At any rate, with the guides properly aligned there was no problem. But without the guides, I consider this car seat unacceptable (I returned it). I would note that there are relatively few people who have voiced this complaint, so your mileage may vary. But if I owned this car seat, I would ask the manufacturer why the "shoulder harness guides" are no longer included.

This is the second of this seat I have purchased. My daughter loves this seat and it is so easy to install. Rear facing this seat takes up a huge amount of room and is not for many cars. However, front facing it fits well in my VW Passat. I love this seat. I only wish it would have worked as a rear facing seat in my car. I had to purchase a different seat that I did not like as much to fit in my car rear facing until my daughter could face forward.
